if there's 2 teams tied at #2, we would be 4th in scoring def.

Ok 4th,,,,, That still not that bad. Chiefs are 9-0 Miami 5-4 Dallas 7-2 Tampa 4-5

So the Points allowed column can be skewed,,, when you are 20+ points ahead late in the game you can give up 'mercy points' with back up players, while a losing team like Miami or Bucs points allowed are more realistic to the way they are playing.

Of course, you also don't have to respect the run, so you can really go after the QB and create more turnovers. So it works both ways.

How many of us wished for an *average* defense last year? They'd have been a playoff team, given the amount of points they scored. It's great that they've learned how to stop people this year. I'd prefer they didn't give up so many yards, but the end result is how many points you give up, and they're doing really well there.

As Vermeil has pointed out, though, a lot of the blame for all that yardage is the offense putting them on the field so much by not sustaining drives. That is, prior to the last couple games.

Very true. Despite the high point totals, early on the offense lacked consistency and put a heavy load on the defense. Don't know the stats, but I'd expect that the Chiefs got an awfully high percentage of points from Special Teams and the D. And the O seemed to go in spurts, with many occurrences of 3 and out. Hopefully that has changed as the O recently looks as good as it's ever been.
