What about the field position the KR squad is giving the Chiefs? It seems to me that Hall's getting past the 30 on almost every kickoff return. That, and the more consistent coverage efforts, are what grab my attention. It's great to have a big play or three out of special teams every week, but not getting heartburn in anticipation of POOR plays on special teams has been great for me this year. And I think it's the underlying consistency that sets the table for the occasional HUGE play.

Relying on memory, but didn't Kurt Schott precede Stock in the early 90's? I thought his special teams played extremely well, especially on the defensive/receiving side of the ball. There were some memorable kick blocks and monumental returns in some pretty high viz games. Even with the infamous Linville Elliot (the kicker(?), not Frank Burns in M*A*S*H), the kicking was okay except in the fateful playoff game.
Anyway, I thought Kurt did a good job as special teams coach in his development as a pretty good defensive-minded coach.

Yes, we had very good special teams during his tenure at that position.

Hmmmm. IIRC, K-Schot went from DBs to DC. I kinda doubt he was demoted to DBs from ST, although I can see where he would've been a major contributor to ST as DBs coach.

I think that's exactly what he did, tho neither he nor the organization likely thought of it as a demotion. Often, ST coach is thought of as a step up from towel boy, but not a real big step.

According to my 1997 media guide, he had spent six years as ST coach and was entering his third season as DB coach.
I'm not sure why you'd think that would be a demotion, especially for a guy who was a DB in college. Frank Gansz, Sr. notwithstanding, ST coach is not exactly a path to power in the NFL. I would imagine he thought it was a promotion, or at least a lateral move, with a much better future.

Good points all. In MY mind, coaching an entire unit of 11 guys is a bigger job than position coach. Doesn't mean it's seen that way in the profession, though, and sounds like it probably isn't.
