The Late Derrick Thomas - A Salute To A Great Player

Derrick Thomas

Recently I’ve read Ira Kaupman notes about his experiences as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s board of selectors.

AS I viewed blogers opinion on the list of the candidates I saw this blogger agreeing that Derrick Thomas should have been in the list.

I should add that when I saw the full list of people on the ballot, what’s really outrageous is that they left out Derrick Thomas.

The same board of selector chose Derrick Thomas in 1989 for the following reasons.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected linebacker Derrick Thomas as the fourth player overall in the 1989 National Football League Draft. A consensus All-America and Dick Butkus Award winner at Alabama, Thomas excelled as a pass rusher who set the school record for sacks.

This excellent player that had to die from not having the seat belt on is a lost to the entire American football and it is only appropriate to dedicate the first post to him.

As for the media coverage I’ve read a post by Shandel Richardson about the media coverage after the death of Sean Taylor about the bias in the attitude of the media while covering his death and it is safe to say that the media are attracted to stress the carelessness of football players and sure the accident could be avoided by slower driving and wearing the seat belt but as this years passes all we remember is a great player.
